Only three matches were played in the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Women’s round 14.

Blacktown Spartans v North Shore Mariners

A goal in each half was enough for the North Shore Mariners to come away with a valuable 2-0 victory at Blacktown Football Park against the Blacktown Spartans.

The Spartans struggled to get out of second gear and the Mariners took full advantage to keep their finals hopes alive.

The away side threatened first from a corner on 16 minutes as Corinne Winkler rose well to head toward the bottom corner, only for Trudy Burke to make a fantastic save.

From the resulting corner, the Mariners were in front.

Again the Spartans didn’t deal well with the set piece as Eliza Apps stole in at the far post to volley the ball home.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side though as they lost both Olivia Price and Nicola Bolger before half time.

It was the Spartans who had the first chance of the second period on 54 minutes as Cassidy Chidgey couldn’t beat the Mariners keeper with a weak shot.

Less than a minute later and Gabrielle Marzano almost had the Spartans level, her first time placed shot went inches wide of the post.

But on 67 minutes the away side doubled their advantage.

Madeleine Bart found herself with acres of space inside the Spartans box. Her first attempt was saved by Burke but she made no mistake with the rebound, sliding the ball home for a 2-0 lead.

Bart then teed up Tifany Patterson after a swift counter but the striker struck her shot wide in the 72ndminute.

Up the other end, the home side went close through Alexandra Huynh only two minutes later with the defender letting fly with a volley that had the Mariners keeper sprawling, only for the ball to go wide of the far post.

With 10 minutes to go, again Marzano was involved.

Some great work by Rhianna Pollicina down the left saw her pull the ball back to Marzano but the striker couldn’t beat Katie Offer who pulled off a fantastic save.

With five minutes to go Alex Huynh whipped in a sharp ball to the far post finding Amy Dahdah who couldn’t sort herself out in time as the ball hit her chest and went off target.
