Round 15 Preview – PS4 NPL NSW Women’s
The PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Women’s competition moves into round 15, building toward a tense finale.
Manly United v Football NSW Institute
All eyes will be on Cromer Park on Sunday afternoon as Manly United host the Football NSW Institute.
Three straight wins has Manly in fourth place on the ladder with a game in hand and could essentially knock the Institute out of finals contention on Sunday.
A squad full of talented players all over the park on their day can beat anyone and coach Chris Williams will need his girls to turn up.
Craig Foster is in much the same position as his counterpart in terms of his squad’s talent level.
A tough schedule for the Institute side has seen them slightly drop off the pace and a win is imperative to keep their finals hopes alive.
It’ll be a clash between two very good teams, boasting many future Matilda’s.
Manly was too strong in round 6, running out 4-0 winners.
NWS Koalas v Emerging Jets
At ELS Hall Park, the North West Sydney Koalas host the Emerging Jets on Sunday afternoon.
Stephen Peters’ side hasn’t had the season they expected and currently sit in eighth place on the ladder.
They’ll want to go out as strong as possible though and will attempt to take all three points on Sunday.
The Jets are another that has had a tough schedule of late and are in 10th place.
Another team full of young and talented players will look to finish off the season the best they can.
The Koalas won the first fixture 5-2.
Illawarra Stingrays v Macarthur Rams
‘Clash of the Titans’ at JJ Kelly Park on Sunday as the Macarthur Rams travel to take on the Illawarra Stingrays.
The highest scoring and most effective side in the competition has a direct chance to give themselves a lifeline in the battle for the Premiership.
Brett Wallin’s team has been fairly consistent this term and only lost once in their last nine matches, an incredible run.
Talitha Kramer has been in fine form along with the experienced Michelle Carney, banging in the goals.
Only two losses all campaign mean the Rams deserve to be where they are on the competition ladder.
Norm Boardman’s side has been disciplined and the most consistent this year and with only a few games remaining, have almost secured the Premiership.
A win on Sunday for the Rams will put the one step closer to their goal.
The Rams came away with the points in a tight one last time around, 2-1.
North Shore Mariners v Northern Tigers
Northbridge Oval will see the North Shore Mariners and Northern Tigers do battle.
It has been a strong finish for the Mariners and their slight hopes of finals football is still alive.
A somewhat easier than expected win last week keeps them in the hunt and it needs to be backed up with three points come Sunday.
The Tigers love messing up the plans of the ‘bigger’ teams and will look to end the Mariners finals hopes.
They’ve been in decent form and with a very tight club championship, points are imperative for the club.
The Mariners won 1-0 back in May.
Sydney University v Blacktown Spartans
Another blockbuster match in round 15 has the Sydney University and Blacktown Spartans battling it out at Sydney University Football Ground.
They only have two losses on their record but an array of injuries has seen Heather Garriock’s side draw four times this campaign.
With time running out to catch the leading Rams, Uni needs to pick up all three points this week otherwise it could be the end of their Premiership chances.
With Andrew Mastoris back in the dugout the Spartans are expecting a change in fortunes.
One win in seven has seen the Blacktown based side drop out of the Premiership race and on the verge of missing out on finals.
A win is imperative for the Spartans and they’ll need to see the heroics of round 6 when they beat Uni 2-1 repeated.
