Northern Suburbs Football Association have embarked on an exciting venture assisting with promoting the sport in conjunction with the Primary School Sports Association.

Over 200 girls recently participated from seven different schools at Koola Reserve in Killara each and every Friday’s in honing their football skills.

Beaumont Road Hills Public School’s Luke Harries has been the brainchild responsible for this in getting this special project off the ground whilst it heaped much praise from Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is hopeful that from next year, the model of working the Teacher and Coach Education angle could be replicated around the country satisfying both the needs of players and their teachers in order to provide the best experience possible.

Northern Suburbs FA Community Manager Ed Ferguson stated to Football NSW his delight upon seeing this special project unfold thanks to the services of Harries.

“This new model of PSSA football increases not only the active time of students but also the enjoyment and football development opportunities the students can be engaged in.

“From day zero to now, the girls have really come on board with the new concept, embracing the different challenges and new formats of play.

“From a football development perspective, the small sided games provide the perfect opportunity for players to practice and challenge their skills in a less pressurised environment, before really testing themselves and their new-found toolbox of skills in their 9 vs 9 games.

“It is not only the students that have excelled over the two terms we have been delivering the program.

“At first, some teachers were sceptical of the concept however now all can see the vast improvement in their girls football skills, and most importantly the girls active involvement and enjoyment they get each time they hop on the school bus to PSSA.

“Luke Harris of Beaumont Road Public School is the brain behind the masterplan and Northern Suburbs Football Association are excited to continue the positive relationship we have grown to share the model with other PSSA regions and truly meet the governments targets of getting more kids active and enjoying sports”.
