NSW PSSA Girls Championships reaches new heights

Sutherland Shire played host to the 2017 NSW PSSA Girls Championships this week, in what was a fantastic three days of female football action.

It also set the scene for the first for ever Professional Learning initiative which was an example of the strengthening partnership between Football NSW and the Primary School Sport programs managed by NSWPSSA.

The opportunity that paved way for various coaches and managers from across the state for an entire day to participate in a collaborative coaching model under the guidance of coaches of such calibre was fabulous as illustrated by Bexley Public School Principal and NSW Football Convenor Steve Mead.

“Football NSW was able to secure support from the Department of Education as well as using Football funds to make this happen”.

Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive and they appreciated having the opportunity to clarify their understanding of a variety of aspects of the game in a supported and cooperative environment.

The success of the day was also reflected by the number of participants already discussing continuing their coaching journey through undertaking further qualifications and professional learning through Football NSW.

Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez acknowledged that the teachers who attended the workshop were key in providing a great experience and assisting the girls development during the week.

“This has been an extremely positive outcome in which every teacher has shown that they are fully committed to the project and are steadily building on their experience and learnings and have implement great change from the get go.”

This day has only been possible due to the hard work and dedication of Steven and Allan from PSSA, and the contributions from Debbie Fisher, FFA Girls Youth Development Manager, Norm Boardman Technical Director from Macarthur FA and Jim Fraser, former Socceroo and Football NSW staff coach.
