APIA Leichhardt FC head coach Franco Parisi believes his side’s latest appearance in the Waratah Cup Final is a reflection of the consistency the club has built over their proud history, as they prepare to face Sydney United 58 in one of New South Wales football’s biggest occasions.

For Parisi, reaching another major cup decider is no accident. It is the result of a club that expects to challenge for honours year after year.

“It is an honour to play in the final of such a prestigious competition,” Parisi said.

“The final is where we want to be.”

This year’s decider continues an impressive run for APIA, who have now reached the semi-finals or better of the Waratah Cup in four consecutive seasons.

“We’ve been in the final or semi-final for the fourth year in a row,” he said.

“APIA is a strong club and we want to play for trophies every season.”

This Wednesday’s clash will also provide a new experience for Parisi and his squad, with the Waratah Cup Final to be played at Valentine Sports Park.

“It is our first time playing a final at Valentine Sports Park and it is very exciting,” he said.

“We can’t wait for the game and we’ve been preparing well.”

While the occasion brings added excitement, Parisi knows success in a cup final is rarely determined by tactics alone. Instead, he believes the contest will ultimately come down to which team shows the greatest determination when it matters most.

“The final will come down to the desire of individuals, who wants it more,” Parisi said.

“The match will be a hard-fought contest and it will be a tough battle between two very good teams.”

Standing in APIA’s way is a Sydney United 58 side that Parisi holds in high regard, particularly under the guidance of head coach Miro Vlastelica.

“Sydney United are a strong side and they play some good football,” he said.

“Coach Miro Vlastelica has brought a lot to Sydney United since his return. They’ve got a strong playing roster and they’re a very good team.”

The respect between the two clubs only adds to the anticipation surrounding a fixture that has become one of the marquee match-ups in New South Wales football.

With two proud clubs, two experienced coaches and a trophy on the line, Parisi expects another fierce contest. But after establishing themselves as regular contenders in both the NPL Men’s NSW competition and cup football, APIA are determined to ensure their latest finals appearance ends with silverware.

For Parisi, simply reaching another decider is not the objective. The ambition is to continue the club’s tradition of competing for trophies, winning silverware, and making another memorable chapter in APIA Leichhardt FC’s proud history.

Tickets for the match are now available, with fans encouraged to secure their place early as there will be no tickets sold on the night for one of the highlights of the NSW football calendar.
