East Coast Heat fall at final hurdle
It was a bridge too far to climb for heroic Australian side East Coast Heat FC who fell at the last hurdle of the 2018 AFF Futsal Club Championship as Bangkok BTS proved far too strong taking it out with a 7-1 victory on Saturday.
Heat head coach Miles Downie and his chargers can hold their heads up high for an amazing run in the tournament as they proved that the Australians can mix it with the best.
Bangkok BTS proved to be too lethal in attack and finished off their attacks which all but ended the Heat’s run.
One shining light to have come out of the match following the final was that Heat attacker Daniel Fornito was given the Golden Boot award for banging in 11 goals – a massive effort, congrats to Daniel.
A statement on the East Coast Heat Facebook all but summed up the Final and the experience the players had in representing their country.
“It wasn’t the result we had hoped for.
“In sport, moments define games and unfortunately for us, those key moments we either couldn’t capitalize or we made mistakes which were punished.
“We threw caution to the wind which obviously blew the game out, but we wish to take this opportunity to thank all those back home for your support.
“It resonated with the players and whilst they feel horrible right now, they can hold their heads up high as they represented their club and nation with pride.”
