Football NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Dene as its newly appointed Technical Director-Girls’/Women’s Football.

Brian is well known to many in the football community having spent time with Sydney FC as the coach of their National Youth League team, the NSW Institute of Sport’s football program and most recently with Blacktown City FC where he was General Manager and their Head of Football where he was fundamental in the establishment of their women’s program.

In 2015 he was the coach of the Australian Schoolgirls’ team that toured the United Kingdom and he spent three years as the Head of Football at the well-respected Ascham Girl’s School.

Brian is a qualified Physical Education teacher and an AFC/FFA A-licence coach.

Up until this appointment, he was previously Football NSW’s Manager, Talented Player Pathways.

In announcing the appointment, Football NSW’s Head of Football Peter Hugg stated.

“In a relatively short time, Brian has demonstrated his capacity and enthusiasm for youth development and the betterment of our young players having addressed some of our early issues with our Talent Support Program and our State Representative Program.

“With his previous history in the girls’ game and across the spectrum of women’s football we are confident that he has the necessary skills and experience to make a tremendous contribution in this space.  Most importantly he has the correct personality and a thorough understanding of the needs of our National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s clubs and our member associations.”

In being told of his appointment, Dene was delighted with his new role at Football NSW.

“I am looking forward to this exciting challenge and making a difference to the many young fine players coming through our ranks.

“The number of talented females coming through our system is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our Member Associations, the clubs and their coaches and it is hoped that our future Matildas’ teams will continue to be dominated by NSW players.

“This is a very exciting prospect especially given the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup bid and the opportunity for our young players to play in front of a home crowd. I intend to get out to visit associations, clubs and coaches and support everyone with a united passion to drive the women’s game forward.”

Brian will commence this role immediately.
