Thrills and spills hit Bathurst Cup

Football fever was alive and kicking over the weekend as hundreds of young and promising footballers converged into Bathurst to participate in the prestigious Bathurst Cup.
In what were ideal football conditions, the pre-season youth Cup competition was action packed full of drama and excitement across the four age groups for Boys (Under 13’s to Under 16’s) as many as 60 teams took part in round robin matches before finals were played on Sunday.
Blacktown Spartans especially, enjoyed their first ever venture in the Bathurst Cup as they took out two of the four age groups with their Under 14’s defeating Western NSW Mariners 4-0 while it’s Under 16’s squad played out a tight 1-0 victory over the Belconnen Blue Devils.
Sutherland Shire FA proved too strong in the Under 13’s defeating the Monaro Panthers 1-0 while Football South Coast FA showed its superiority flexing their muscles with a 2-0 win over Bankstown United in the Under 15’s category.
Players of the Tournament were also announced on finals day with Sutherland Shire FA’s Marko Popovic bagging the 13’s honours while Blacktown Spartans’ Andre Dera took out the Under 14’s age group.
Football South Coast FA’s Jayden Makowski was in sterling form taking out the Under 15’s award while finally Blacktown Spartans’ Luke Haddad was the top of the pops as he was announced as the Under 16’s Player of the Tournament.
The Girls will be the main focus this weekend as the Proctor Park Challenge will take centre stage in Bathurst for the round robin tournament with teams from the Under 12’s right through to the Under 17’s taking part.
