Waverley College took out the 2019 St Andrew’s Cup Trophy after defeating 2018 winners Cranbrook School 3-0 at Valentine Sports Park after two-days of football action at Football NSW’s headquarters.
Cranebrook, coached by former English football star Lloyd Owusu knew his team were in for a fight against rivals Waverley and should have finished off their chances in the big dance but it was their opponents who took their opportunities and proved too clinical in the end with a big victory.
The battle for the St Andrew’s Plate (3rd and 4th) saw St Pius (pictured below) take out the match after a 1-1 draw with St Ignatius College Riverview, held their nerve and won on penalties 6-5.
It concluded a fantastic two days of football as 12 participating schools that included the likes of Waverley College, Cranbrook College, St Ignatius College Riverview, St Pius, St Joeys, Oakhill College, Sydney Boys, Moriah College, St Aloysius, St Paul’s, St Spyridon and St Andrew’s Cathedral School all battled well in the coveted pre-season Cup competition.
Football NSW would like to congratulate Waverley College for clinching the 2019 St Andrew’s Cup.
