A handful of round 5 FFA Cup matches took place across NSW on Wednesday evening with some big scores as well as a scare for NPL NSW Men’s side Rockdale City Suns who needed an injury time winner to progress to the next stage of the tournament against Illawarra Premier League outfit Wollongong United.

Interim Suns coach Nick Porreca’s nerves were put to the test by their neighbours Wollongong United who battled well throughout the match. Goals from Jonathan Grozdanovski, Pani Nikas and the winner by Alec Urosevski in injury time assured the Suns lived to fight another day in the Cup and continued Porreca’s impressive winning record at Illinden Sports Centre.

The lush surface at Balls Paddock played host to the match between home side Bulli FC and NPL 2 NSW Men’s outfit Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Milan Blagojevic’s men proved a little too strong for the Illawarra Premier League club running out 4-2 victors thanks to goals from Amar Adilovic, Huss Jasli, Rob Morsello and Asmir Kadric.

NPL NSW Men’s league leaders Wollongong Wolves made light work of local association side Coledale Waves as Ian McLennan Park was treated to eleven goals on the evening all coming the way of Luke Wilkshire’s men. The star of the show was Stefan Dimoski who bagged five goals in an impressive display in front of goals.

Sydney Olympic had Jack Stewart to thank has his double sunk NPL 3 NSW Men’s outfit Stanmore Hawks out of the Cup while Hakoah Sydney City East smashed six past Western NSW Mariners at Hensley Athletic Field.

Sydney United 58 booked its ticket for round 6 after defeating Illawarra Premier League side Woonona Sharks FC 3-0. Goals to Patrick Antelmi, Sebastien Gallegos and Glen Trifiro sunk the South Coast side’s hopes of progressing to the next stage.

Illawarra Premier League leaders Tarrawanna Blueys felt the wrath of NPL 3 outfit Dulwich Hill who ran out 3-1 victors. Robbie Deasy, Alex Small and Jayme Canhada got on the scoresheet for Dulwich Hill as they lit up Valentine Sports Park at the final whistle.

Manly Football Association side Dee Why’s heroic Cup run came to a crashing end at the end of NPL 3 side Sydney University who hit five past them to progress to the next stages of the Cup while St George Saints defeated West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook at Campbell Park scoring four goals to nil.

Nepean FC’s Hazelbrook Hawks FC became the first association club to move through to round 6 with a heart stomping 4-3 win on penalties over Killarney District after the match ended 2-2.

There was also a round 4 FFA Cup double header played at Pluim Park in front of a healthy crowd with both APIA Leichhardt Tigers and Blacktown City progressing to their round 5 match ups with victories.

Both NPL NSW Men’s clubs were made to work for their wins though with Blacktown City winning 3-2 over Terrigal United while APIA Leichhardt Tigers scored a 3-1 win over Berkeley Vale.

The victory for Mark Crittenden’s men has setup an almighty round 5 clash and a local derby against Blacktown Spartans while the Tigers host Eastern Suburbs Football Association side Coogee United.
