Men’s Futsal Premier League round-six saw Mountain Majik beat Boomerangs FS 3-2, UTS Northside and Inner West Magic draw 2-2, Eastern Suburbs Hakoah hold off Enfield Allstars 3-2, and Mascot Vipers downed Campbelltown Quake 5-3.

Mascot scooted four points clear of Easts at the top of the table, with Inner West, Mountain, Northside and Enfield embroiled in a playoff dogfight behind them.

Mountain Majik 3 (Jordan Guerreiro, Chris Barbera, Jamie Dib) Boomerangs FS 2 (Elie Darwich, Nicholas Van Aalst)

UTS Northside 2 (Reginald Hore-Gibson, Grant Lynch) Inner West Magic 2 (Anthony Haddad, Matt Mazevski)

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah 3 (Gilad Swartz 3) Enfield Allstars 2 (Luiz Lobo)

Mascot Vipers 5 Campbelltown Quake 3 (Harrison Bagot, Mark Symington, Shaun Irwin)

Mountain shade Boomerangs

A late Boomerangs FS hussle wasn’t enough to derail Mountain Majik who won 3-2 at Blacktown Leisure Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Jordon Guerreiro put the home side in front with an early strike but couldn’t shake Boomerangs until Chris Barbera doubled the advantage minutes into the second half.

The Territorians busted out a power play in the closing minutes and Elie Darwich cut the deficit in half to trail 2-1 three minutes from time only to see an immediate Jamie Dib response recoup the buffer.

Nicholas Van Aalst scored a second for Boomerangs in the final minute, but it wasn’t enough and the match finished with Majik 3-2 in front.

Mountain’s third-straight win at home puts them behind a club-mark four set back in their debut 2013/14 season.

On the other hand, a fifth-straight road-defeat puts Boomerangs one behind their club-low mark of six set in the same summer.

Northside, Inner West draw

UTS Northside were fantastic value in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Inner West Magic at PCYC Dee Why on Saturday afternoon.

When Anthony Haddad struck for Inner West in the first minute of play it looked like a bleak night for UTS, but ‘The Students’ held their nerve to only trail by one at the break.

Matt Mazevski continued his hot Magic streak when he traded goals with Northside’s Reginald Hore-Gibson straight after the restart, and when Grant Lynch slotted home on the half-hour it was 2-2 and game on!

There was action at both ends but the scoreline remained unchanged at halftime to register the fixture’s first ever stalemate.

It was an important point for both sides but the draw allowed Easts to skip in front of Inner West on the points ladder.

Easts edge Enfield

A Gilad Swartz hat-trick proved decisive for Eastern Suburbs Hakoah in their 3-2 defeat of Enfield Allstars at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday evening.

Swartz nailed two first-half goals as Easts led 2-1 at the break and his third was the match-winner in a very tight contest.

Hakoah jump Inner West into second place and their 12 points so far this season (six rounds) is one short of the total 13 they accumulated in their debut summer last year.

Swartz is certainly enjoying his Allstars runs with five goals in the last two games against Enfield.

Enfield’s loss isn’t catastrophic as round results kept them three points behind the top-four.

Mascot defeat Campbelltown

Mascot Vipers were made to sweat hard in a tough 5-3 win against Campbelltown Quake at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday night.

Win-less Campbelltown stuck it to table-toppers Mascot and were well in the match at 2-2 at the changeover, but Vipers showed their class in the second term as they pulled away for a two-goal victory.

Harrison Bagot, Mark Symington and Shaun Irwin scored for Quake.

Mascot’s sixth-unbeaten league game is the 11th-best registered run of any team over the past 13 seasons (only five times has a double-figure streak been recorded), but it pales in the shade of Dural’s remarkable 25-match sequence set over three summers.

Campbelltown however has suffered six-straight defeats, one short of their club-low mark of seven set last year, but coach Symington would be more worried if they weren’t being competitive.

“At halftime we definitely had them worried. We just didn’t have the legs,” he said.

“They had a deep bench and some really effective players. Another improvement but not the win we are after.”

“Harry Bagot was a good performer again, and José made his debut from the youth and did well as well.”
