Runaway leaders Dural Warriors continue to chug along in another thrilling installment of the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition. Outside that, the fight for the top four places continues unabated with four pulsating contests in Round 10. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: Sydney Futsal Club 0 defeated by Dural Warriors 9

Competition leaders Dural Warriors thumped Sydney Futsal Club 9-nil in a top of the table clash at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre for the Match of the Round.

Golden Boot leader Rachel Perrins took a huge step towards the award with a five-goal haul in the triumph which takes her tally to 21 for the season. Strike partner Tess Olsen fired home a hat-trick in the slick performance while Emma Hurley also found the back of the net.

Coming into the contest, Sydney Futsal Club had the chance to stamp themselves as a heavyweight contender in this season. They were blown away in the first half but the second was an even contest where the home side created a few more chances and can build on for the last few games of the season.

The visitors hit top gear right from the whistle, Tess Olsen and Rachel Perrins both had chances in the opening ten minutes. Perrins cut inside with her effort which was denied as the Warriors look to take an early lead.

Perrins fired home her second chance at the net in the ninth minute. The golden boot leader created the space well for herself then cushioned the ball into the bottom corner, making it 1-nil to Dural Warriors after ten minutes.

It was slim pickings for Sydney Futsal Club with chances in the first half. Tanya Marjanovic had a shot plucked out of the air followed by Georgia Manos and Brittany Christie going close in a blank first half for the home side.

Tess Olsen doubled the advantage for Dural Warriors in the 18th minute when the attacker swept home an incisive move from the visitors for 2-nil. Emma Hurley gave them a buffer in the final minute with a low shot to make it 3-nil.

Coming out of the break, Dural Warriors turned the game into high gear. Perrins went on a tear to put the game beyond doubt. The visitors flexed their muscles and showed that it will take a huge effort to snap the leaders streak.

Perrins showed both the power and precision to complete the hat-trick in the 120 seconds after half-time. Suddenly, it was 5-nil to Dural Warriors and they were in firm control against the closest opposition in the table.

The onslaught continued with Dural holding possession well, fizzed it around the court and prise an opening against Sydney Futsal Club. Perrins found her fourth off the rebound for 6-nil then combined well with Olsen to side foot the seventh goal.

Getting in on the act, Olsen completed her hat-trick as the goals rained in for the Warriors. She produced a smooth turn-and-shoot to make it 8-nil then unleashed a venomous strike for the ninth and final goal on an impressive afternoon from Dural.

Speaking afterwards, Dural Warriors coach Rob Varela was delighted with the performance against the side coming second in the ladder as the side continue to gel:

“We were focused tonight to come out with the result. We had a few people missing but that didn’t show on the court or the performance. We made a statement against the side coming second in this game.” said a happy Varela post-game.

Phoenix Futsal Club 5 defeated South Coast Taipans 1

A hugely important scalp for Phoenix Futsal Club came on Saturday night as they defeated South Coast Taipans 5-1 to keep their finals hopes alive at PCYC Hornsby.

Phoenix Futsal Club put in a concise performance to knock off one of the heavyweight sides in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition. Isabel Gomez netted her 11th goal of the season with Brenda Hogan, Naomi Majok, Iona Snape and Sophie Holliday the others to score.

Taipans followed up their bright performance in last weekend’s Match of the Round with what coach Bobby Mazevski described as a “Jeckyll and Hyde” performance which left him disappointed and not a result he expects from that Taipans side.

Consistent goal threat Kya Stewart scored her sixth of the season in the first half for the visitors. Taipans tried to push the issue with the powerplay in the second half but Taipans left empty-handed. The south coast side remain comfortable in third spot despite the result.

Raiders Futsal Club 5 defeated Sydney City Eagles 3

Fourth placed Raiders Futsal Club edged an eight-goal fest 5-3 against a brave Sydney City Eagles side Saturday night down at Thomas Hassell Anglican College.

Raiders Futsal Club made it three results on the bounce but were made it to work for it. The game was in the balance at 3-3 headed into the final ten before the home side scored twice to take all three points to maintain fourth spot.

The goals for the home side came from a Mia Conners double with Nicole Ossio, Vanessa Ciabatti and Sophia Hamilton the others to find the back of the net. Raiders Futsal Club have started to find their form at the right end of the season.

For Sydney City Eagles, the visitors battled hard against last year’s Grand Finalists but couldn’t finish off the game to pick up a huge scalp. Their goals came through Jessica Beale, Alanah Nicholas and Kayla Spurway as they aim to play spoiler the rest of the way.

West City Crusaders 1 defeated by SD Raiders Futsal 6

SD Raiders Futsal moved into sixth spot with their drought-breaking 6-1 result against West City Crusaders Saturday night at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium.

The visitors picked up their first three points since Round 3 against the same opponents. Paris Kambouris took the headlines with a hat-trick for SD Raiders Futsal – her second of the season as SD Raiders Futsal complete the double this season against Crusaders.

Alongside that hat-trick from Kambouris were goals from Chloe Doan, Alison Macaulay and Jami-Lee Mussett who all found the back of the net. SD Raiders Futsal remain an outside shot of making the finals after this weekend now.

For West City Crusaders, Erin Hill was their lone goal scorer in the second half. That was her first goal of the season and with the disappointing result, the prospect of finals football stretches further away from the Crusaders.
