A record number of 64 young promising female teams converged into Bathurst last weekend at Proctor Park for the 2020 Proctor Park Challenge.

The first Grand final match saw St George FC take out its first ever Proctor Park Challenge Cup with a 3-0 win against fellow Football NSW GSAP club APIA Leichardt Tigers in the Under 12’s category.

In the Under 17’s, Shellharbour JFC took out an exciting finale in penalties after extra time could not separate them and the Macarthur Rams.

The Under 14’s Grand Final saw another Grand Final go into penalties after a 1-1 score post extra-time between regional team Albury-Wodonga FA and St George FC. The regional players held their nerve for Albury-Wodonga FA to take the Trophy with the win on penalties.

Lastly, Marconi Stallions followed up last weekend’s success in the Bathurst Cup with a win in the Under 15’s by defeating Capital Football representative Woden Weston FC 2-0 in the Grand Final to take out the Trophy.

Football NSW Development Manager, Regional Football Andrew Fearnley was impressed with the way female football has developed throughout the years with the numbers spiking at Bathurst for the much anticipated Challenge.

“It was a great weekend for lots of regional teams to compete against a range of teams from NPL/GCL in NSW and Capital Football in addition to the various clubs from Sydney who also competed.

“It was positive to see such a good display of football in the games and to see such a positive picture of women’s football.

“The stats don’t lie, the fact that a record number of 64 teams participated in the tournament shows the female football really is going from strength to strength.”
