Football NSW Update on State Titles
Over recent years, Football NSW have been working with the broader football community to refine and develop our talent identification programs.
With the introduction of the Talent Support Programs (TSP) and the Elite Games, the football calendar has become ever more crowded, but opportunities for talented players to be identified and developed in best vs best environments have been enhanced.
In particular, there are greater opportunities for players to be identified and developed with less emphasis on success at a small number of selection trials and more emphasis on a process of continual development through the course of a 4-term program.
In this context, the Board of Football NSW has resolved to:
- Discontinue the State Titles tournament from 2021.
- Structured TSP games in a way to ensure regular ongoing meaningful participation from country players, and;
- Expand and elevate the status of the Country Cup be to ensure maximum opportunities for competition and talent ID for country players.
Football NSW would like to thank everyone that’s participated in the various discussions around the future of our Talent Identification Programs and we will continue to work collaboratively across the game to ensure there are great opportunities available for talented players to be identified and develop.
