Amidst the current Greater Sydney lockdown on no football activity, Regional NSW was blessed with some round ball game action as Proctor Park played host to the 2021 Under 14 Boys Country Cup as six associations went head-to-head this weekend at Bathurst.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 gripping Football in Greater Sydney, the Country Cup was able to proceed as it involved regional associations and players only.

Back to the football action and it was the hosts Bathurst District Football Association that made full use of their home ground advantage winning four of its pool matches that led the squad to the Grand Final that was played on Saturday.

Their opponents weren’t made clear until the final round of Pool matches as both Dubbo FA and Southern Tablelands FA battled it out for second spot and a chance to take on the red-hot hosts.

As it stood, it was the boys from Southern Tablelands FA that reigned supreme finishing ahead of Dubbo FA winning a spot in the 2021 Under 14 Boys Country Cup Grand Final.

The big dance saw the visitors Southern Tablelands FA stun the hosts racing out to a 1-0 lead before Bathurst FA finally hit their straps and scored two goals to come from behind to be crowned deserved 2021 Under 14 Boys Country Cup Champions.

Football NSW Development Manager, Regional Football, Andrew Fearnley was impressed with the quality of football that was on display at Proctor Park.

“There was a great level of competitive games across Friday and Saturday, and it was great to see the regional association teams involved able to test themselves against similar representative teams.

“It also presented another opportunity for us to identify potential players that we can look to include in our Talent Support Program in the future.”
