Proud Southern Tablelands FA Under 15’s and 16’s Head Coach Robert Scott Snr couldn’t hide his delight after seeing his young promising troops take out last weekend’s 2021 Country Cup held a the South Nowra Sporting Complex.

After six matches across the two-day competition, Scott’s high-flyers proved too strong for Shoalhaven & District FA, Orange & District FA and Far South Coast FA, finishing up with an incredible sixteen points securing five victories and one draw in what was a memorable tournament.

“I was very happy for the boys to win this but it was great to see them able to compete and develop as a team.

“The Country Cup is a great tournament as it gives each player a chance to play against different Associations across regional NSW and not just the ones within their Branches.

“The Cup also gives players a unique opportunity to develop as the more games each player can compete in, the better they could become.

“This tournament also enables coaches to develop as they are put to the test adapting to how different teams’ setup in high-pressure situations.”

Asked if this Cup victory was one of his finest achievements as a Coach, a humble Scott Snr said it was all about ensuring the players took this opportunity to show their worth.

“I’m just here to ensure our young players get the chance to showcase their talents as a footballer at a big stage such as the Country Cup.”

It’s been a long coaching journey for Scott Snr who has thoroughly enjoyed each and every experience.

“I’ve been coaching since 1987 where I started off with the Goulburn Workers FC.

“Since then I’ve been coaching my club teams due to work commitments.

“This year I’m currently coaching a Goulburn Workers Under 18s side in a Youth League joint competition with the Highlands Association.”

With success such as the recent Country Cup achievement, the signs are evident that the development of footballers and the game is on the way up at the Southern Tablelands Association.

“As most people would say, you’d like to be in a better position, but I would have to say that the game is going in the right and positive direction here at STFA.

“We are all working hard to ensure we see more players enjoying their football as well as coming through the system.”
