As we enter the final stretch of the season, round ten of the Futsal Premier League Open Women’s competition brought us plenty of drama.

Vipers and Dural Warriors couldn’t be separated in a top four clash. Quake kept their unbeaten run alive against Eastern Suburbs Hakoah, Inner West edged Enfield and Mountain Majik scored their first win of the season.

Mascot Vipers 3-3 Dural Warriors

First placed Mascot Vipers came back from a two goal deficit to draw with Dural Warriors at PCYC Hawkesbury.

This one was a classic tale of two halves with the visitors the better side in the first 25 minutes before the Vipers came back in the second.

Sheiden Jabour was first on the scoresheet eight minutes into the fixture for the Warriors, a lead which lasted less than a minute before Riley Welsh equalized at the other end. However as mentioned earlier in the summary, the Warriors were the better side in the first half rewarded with a further two goals before halftime. Rachel Perrins adding their second before Jabour scored her fourth in six matches to claim a brace.

In their third game in the space of a week all of which saw them facing a top four side, the Vipers were able to come from behind to bring them to seven points from their three matches. Trudy Camelleri scoring twice in the second half to bring her record to a goal a game this season with the score finishing 3-3.

Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club 2-2 Eastern Suburbs Hakoah Futsal Club

Campbelltown City Quake continued their recent unbeaten run with a two all draw with Eastern Suburbs Hakoah in Sydney’s Southwest.

It’s a contrast to their opponents Eastern Suburbs Hakoah who have one point from their last two. After both sides shared early opportunities, the visitors took the lead just before ten minutes. Described as a textbook futsal goal, Marcella Santos beat her player wide before squaring it to Zoe Anderson who finished at the back post.

There wasn’t long to wait for a response though with the Quake scoring a goal of their own five minutes later. Linda Dudek setting up Eliza Pereira for the finish to bring them level.

Hakoah were to take the lead once again before the break though, Marcella Santos adding their second after they intercepted a pass.

After the resumption, the Quake created a couple of quick opportunities to draw level with India Breier key to their efforts. Eventually going on to play the role of provider to Peta Trimis. Trimis finishing through the legs of the opposition keeper.

Both sides then had their opportunities for a winner but things finished level, Hakoah sitting in second on goal difference and the Quake within striking distance of UTS Northside above them.

Enfield Allstars 0-1 Inner West Futsal Club

Inner West secured their second victory in the space of three weeks with a late victory over Enfield Allstars at Morris Iemma Indoor SC.

And it was a case of win by any means possible for Inner West who had several players missing through injury. In doing such, Burt Martins side relied on their more experienced players in Tara Pender, Ella Martins and Courtney Halpin to get them over the line.

Overall though, it was an even contest particularly in the first half with the visitors finishing stronger the difference in the end. New signing Ceyda Cambaz with the goal with just two minutes remaining slipping it past the keeper.

For Enfield, they could have easily come away with a point with Bianca Radman in particular proving a threat on the Inner West goal. Though honorable mentions should also go to Renee Houliaras and Olivia Mitchell who have a good combination going.

Inner West now move to nine points for the season before their meeting with UTS Northside next weekend. While Enfield sit in last place ahead of the Morris Iemma Indoor SC derby next weekend.

Mountain Majik Futsal Club 5-2 UTS Northside Futsal Club

Finally, in the upset of the season Mountain Majik prevailed over UTS Northside to claim their first victory of the season.

Not panicking after their opposition brought it back to level pegging with just over ten minutes left, the Majik then went on to score three unanswered goals for their victory.

After a scoreless first half, Mountain Majik grabbed two early in the second half courtesy of goals to Chelsea Barton and Angelique Lynch. Barton with her first Open Women’s goal while Lynch scored her second of the season.

UTS Northside hit back quickly however with Emily Bastow and Anneke Corry scoring for them in the space of a minute.

It’s then however when the Majik broke their season duck scoring three goals unanswered in the final ten. Angelique Lynch with the third goal, before Clare Holder joined her with a brace of he own.

Majik jump off the bottom of the table with their win. While UTS Northside may be looking over their shoulder as they cling on to fourth.
