Football NSW delivered a record-breaking 52 activations for this year’s 2023 Female Football Week that took place from the 19th – 28th of May.

Female Football Week celebrates the contributions of female players, coaches, referees, administrators, and volunteers all of whom have continually played a pivotal role in the development of the women’s game.

Football NSW’s Head of Women’s & School Football, Hayley Todd, was pleased with the magnitude of the 2023 campaign.

“The objective of this year’s Female Football Week campaign was to drive female participation at all levels of the game, and I’m delighted to have seen the many localised activations that took shape across the community which saw us break records in the running of events.

“We could not have asked for a better way to boost female football with less than two months out from the nation hosts the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.”

An initiative which Football NSW first pioneered in 2014, Female Football Week has now become a nationwide celebration of females across all aspects of the game.

The 2023 edition featured 47 community events and approximately 8,000 participants in total, with a highlight being Sunday’s Festival of Female Football, held by Balmain DFC and Leichhardt Saints FC at the historic Leichhardt Oval.

Football NSW also hosted five events at Valentine Sports Park showcasing various career pathways in football through coaching, refereeing, media and administration.

As part of this year’s celebrations, Football NSW acknowledged the many amazing Female Football Champions from clubs and associations that have continually excelled in promoting women’s football across six categories: Referees, Administrators, Volunteers, Coaches, Players and Allies.
