Sylvania Heights FC rejoice in Box Road Reserve Upgrade

Sutherland Shire Football Association club Sylvania Heights Football Club received a major boost prior to the grassroots season kicking off following the completion of a $2.9 million upgrade to their home ground, Box Road Reserve.
Improvements include two re-levelled grass playing fields with irrigation and enhanced drainage to improve all year-round use, smart-control LED floodlighting, a viewing platform, fencing and pathways to enhance safety and accessibility.
Sutherland Shire Council delivered the project in partnership with the football club’s parent, the Sylvania Heights Community & Youth Club and was supported by a State Government grant and contributions from Cricket NSW and the Club itself.
The facilities were officially opened last Saturday 29th March at an event attended by Mayor Jack Boyd, Dr. Sarah Kaine MLC, Miranda MP Eleni Petinos, councillors Carmelo Pesce, Jen Armstrong and Haris Strangas, representatives from Sylvania Heights Community & Youth Club, Cricket NSW, Football NSW, and Sutherland Shire Football Association.
Sylvania Heights Community & Youth Club Vice President Chris Plakias was appreciative of Football NSW’s support during the bid process.
“Football NSW’s support was invaluable to us during the critical bid stage and greatly assisted us in successfully securing funding from the NSW Government,” Mr Plakias said.
“We are extremely pleased to have realised our vision of creating a modern, high-quality and accessible community sporting facility. Football is the Club’s largest activity and what a fantastic way to launch into the 2025 Winter football season than with these state-of-the-art facilities.”
Football NSW’s Head of Strategic Partnership and Corporate Affairs Helen Armson said the project would assist with football’s push in playing the sport all year round on a quality facility.
“It’s very rewarding to witness the commitment and persistence of the many volunteers who oversaw this project through to completion.
“This upgrade aligns perfectly with Football NSW’s Infrastructure Strategy of advocating for better facilities leading to connected communities and this was evident today.
“We look forward to seeing teams from Sylvania Heights FC benefit from this upgrade and playing under lights on their new pitch in May.”
The venue is also used by other sports including cricket and OzTag as well as for school and community events and is the home of Sylvania Heights Community & Youth Club.
