Albury Wodonga Football Association’s (AWFA)’s Boomers Football Club has celebrated a major milestone with the unveiling of upgraded facilities at Glen Park, creating an inclusive space that matches the club’s rapid growth and strong commitment to equality.

Female participation at the club has surged over the past five years, with more than 100 women and girls now registered across its teams. Beyond players, the club continues to welcome women as referees, coaches, volunteers and supporters, contributing to a thriving football community both on and off the pitch.

Until now, facilities had not kept pace with this growth. The old change rooms were outdated, lacked female-friendly spaces, and provided no accessible public amenities. The redevelopment has transformed the clubhouse, delivering two modern change rooms with dedicated toilets and showers, three accessible public toilets, a referee office, meeting space and additional storage.

Club Vice President Anna Griffith said the upgrades reflect the values that Boomers FC has been building culturally for many years.

“Equal participation in our club goes beyond having women’s and girls’ teams.

“It’s about providing a facility that all members of the community feel accommodated, and families can enjoy a day at our grounds as spectators, volunteers and players.

“Our club is equally invested in the development of boys and girls, equally invested in coaching for men and women and helping our whole club community enjoy the game.

“The upgrades to the facility now reflect the work we have carried out culturally to foster equality in the sport for our members, and they set a baseline that we can continue to build upon throughout the coming seasons.”

Football NSW’s Infrastructure & Club Development Coordinator Lachlan Mainwaring said the Glen Park project is a clear example of how investment in regional clubs helps meet the growing demand for women’s and girls’ football.

“Boomers FC have shown what’s possible when a club leads with equality at the centre of its culture.

“These facilities now match that ambition and will support the next generation of players, coaches, referees and volunteers in Albury-Wodonga.”
