Macarthur Football Association Driving Growth On and Off the Field
Macarthur Football Association (MFA) continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading football associations in New South Wales through its ongoing investment in player development, coach education, and community football initiatives.
A major milestone for the Association in 2025 has been the success of the Macarthur Talent Development Program (TDP), with 50 players progressing into representative football pathways. The MFA TDP was established as a high-performance development program designed to bridge the gap between grassroots and representative football, providing aspiring players with additional training and development opportunities within the local region.
The achievement highlights the continued growth of football within Macarthur and the Association’s commitment to creating clear and accessible development pathways for young players.
Alongside player development, MFA has also placed a strong emphasis on coach education and mentoring through its MFA High Performance CPD Workshop Series. The initiative has already attracted more than 200 coach registrations across four workshops delivered so far this year, with another session scheduled for June, which has already registered 67 coaches.
The workshop series has featured an impressive line-up of guest presenters from the professional and elite football environment, including:
• Timothy Knight – Former Lead Sports Scientist, CommBank Matildas
• Nick Susko – Former Academy Manager, Sydney FC
• Alen Stajcic – Former A-Leagues and National Teams Head Coach
• Giancarlo Italiano – Former A-Leagues Head Coach (scheduled for June)
The CPD workshops form part of MFA’s broader commitment to building coaching capability across the region and supporting coaches at all levels of the game.
Further reinforcing this commitment, more than 100 local coaches have successfully completed Foundation of Football coaching courses this year, with seven courses delivered throughout the Macarthur region to date. These programs continue to create opportunities for grassroots coaches to develop their knowledge, confidence, and ability to positively impact young players.
Additional key initiatives contributing to the Association’s growth include:
• The continued development of the Willowdale MSAP Hub
• The MFA Coach Mentoring Program and MFA Coaching Community Groups
• The successful Wests Group Macarthur Gala Day Series, involving 35 Under 5 to Under 7 teams
• The Macarthur Cup, which welcomed more than 80 Under 8 to Under 12 teams from across the region
Through its strong focus on participation, education, and high-performance development, Macarthur Football Association continues to create meaningful opportunities for players, coaches, and clubs, while strengthening football pathways within the South West Sydney community.
