FIFA referee Andrew Best to lead Football Australia futsal education session
Football Australia will host a dedicated online education webinar for futsal match officials on Wednesday 3 June at 7:30pm AEST, as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening referee development across the country.
The one-hour session, titled “Elevate Your Performance. Enhance Your Positioning. Connect with Your Refereeing Community”, is open to community match officials nationwide and is designed to support referees at every stage of their officiating journey.
The webinar will focus on key performance areas including positioning, movement and reading of play, with a strong emphasis on practical application for match day environments.
Participants will also gain insight into how elite officials manage space, anticipate play and maintain optimal angles under pressure, drawing on match footage and key moments from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
A highlight of the session will be a guest presentation from FIFA referee Andrew Best, who officiated the Asian Cup semi-final.
Best will share firsthand experiences from the tournament, offering valuable insight into performance standards, decision-making and managing high-level international matches.
Football Australia’s futsal match official education initiative aims to ensure referees are equipped with the tools required to improve consistency, confidence and credibility on the pitch, while also fostering stronger connection across the refereeing community.
The session will also provide an opportunity for officials to engage, collaborate and share experiences with peers from across the pathway, from grassroots referees through to those with national championship experience.
Football NSW Futsal Manager Jordan Guerreiro said the webinar represents an important entry point into ongoing development opportunities for match officials.
