Bankstown Football4All School Program Commences
Bankstown District Amateur Football Association has joined forces with three local schools which cater for students with special needs – Caroline Chisholm School, George Bass School and Broderick Gillawarna to develop the Bankstown Football4All Program.
The program is a 6-week program held each Thursday at Amour Park, Revesby.
“I attended a football gala day held at George Bass late last year and I was blown away by how much the students love their football. However, I thought to myself – this only happens once a year,” explained BDAFA General Manager, Shane Merry.
From this, Merry approached the three schools and put a proposal to join forces it was quite simple; the schools provide the students and BDAFA will provide the rest.
The program commenced last Thursday 25th May with more than 40 students participating in an hour of skill based football activities.
“The children loved it and we were very fortunate that a number of local coaches for our Member Clubs put their hand up to volunteer to help run the program.
“We’ve been quite fortunate that Football NSW Community Development Officer, Demelza Howard has created the program and overseeing all the coaches. The first day went off without a hitch and it was just amazing to see the smiles on those children’s faces,” Merry explained.
“It is a great initiative and one that we’re hoping will turn into a long-term program for the schools and hopefully will become a permanent fixture during the BDAFA Winter season”.
The program runs until Thursday 29 June.
