Socceroos Legend Delivers Successful AFC/FFA Level 1 Goalkeeping Licence
Former Socceroos goalkeeping legend Tony Franken was a delighted figure after delivering a recent AFC/FFA Level 1 Goalkeeping Licence at Valentine Sports Park.
This was the first stage of the Advanced Coach Education Pathway for Goalkeeper Coaches where each participant learnt to design effective goalkeeping sessions aligned with FFA’s Vision & Philosophy and Coaching Process.
Football NSW Manager Advanced Coach Development Chris Adams was thrilled with the course outcomes.
“Having someone of Tony’s experience and stature in the game come to deliver this course was a fantastic experience for the coaches on the course, all of the coaches in attendance benefited from the formal modules of the course both theoretical and practical but also from the shared learning and discussions with both Tony and their fellow coaches.”
Westfield Sports High School also played a key role in the course with the school kindly taking some of their program goalkeepers off timetable for the day to participate in practical sessions delivered by Franken and the course candidates.
FFA Head Of Goalkeeping Franken was impressed by the young goalkeepers that participated as well as the coaches on the course.
“It is pleasing to see the passion for goalkeeping here in NSW with such a large group of coaches attending the course, there was a high level of football knowledge within the room and hopefully now from this course we have helped them with a framework to pass this knowledge onto the goalkeepers they are working with.”
Goalkeeper coaching is another key focus for the Football NSW Technical Department as a result both Male and Female Technical Directors Warren Grieve and Brian Dene participated in the course to assist in developing their knowledge in the subject to help them with identifying goalkeepers for elite player programs.
“To spend the full week seeing the course in action under Tony’s guidance was excellent as it allowed me the opportunity to not only see what we should be developing in our goalkeepers for elite programs but importantly how we should be coaching our goalkeepers to give them the best possible opportunity to play at the highest level,” said Grieve.
“Tony’s delivery was excellent throughout and it shows that the coaching process and framework for developing goalkeepers is no different to that of the mainstream C, B and A Licences with the Vision and Philosophy is consistent.”
Franken will be back at Valentine Park in November 2019 to deliver a second AFC/FFA Level 1 Goalkeeping Licence with registration details to be announced in coming weeks.
