Round 12 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition offered up some intriguing and surprising results across the Saturday timeslot. Each of the three games had something different to enjoy including the Match of the Round between Macarthur Quake Futsal Club and SD Raiders Futsal. Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Macarthur Quake Futsal Club 2 defeated by SD Raiders Futsal 5

SD Raiders Futsal won 5-2 against Macarthur Quake Futsal Club at Minto Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The Quake started off strong and held a 2-0 goal headed into half-time with goals from Emily Fenn in the 14th and 20th minute before they fell away in the second half against the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s leaders.

For SD Raiders Futsal, it was a spirited effort to devise the second half comeback. Abigail Boag earned a brace in the win alongside captain Jessica Neville while Miriam Zumaya had a terrific solo effort to get on the scoresheet.

The first chance of the game fell to SD Raiders Futsal. Miriam Zumaya cut inside and shot right at Quake keeper Alannah Ellul.

Angelique Lynch was the outlet for Quake at the other end early. She had a pair of efforts which saw her test SD Raiders Futsal keeper Elana Topalidis.

Next, it was SD Raiders Futsal captain Jessica Neville who had an effort. She found space and fizzed an effort wide.

Quake then went the closest to opening the scoring through Emily Fenn. She wriggled free and rattled her shot against the bar.

Chances continued at both ends of the pitch. SD Raiders Futsal had two which went close then Georgia Bromfield touched wide for the visitors.

Mikaela Molina could not dig an effort home for Quake then Chloe Colchini whacked her shot against the post as both teams searched for the opener.

Quake made it 1-0 in the 14th minute through Fenn. It was a determined effort which saw her poke the ball into the net.

Lynch tried to double the delight for the Quake. She whipped an effort which was turned over by the bar by Topalidis.

SD Raiders Futsal kept searching for the equaliser. Dione King stabbed over then Zumaya weaved through and hit the woodwork.

The visitors pressure continued to build. Abigail Boag was denied well then Layne Knight couldn’t turn the ball home.

Quake made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Fenn stepped up for the 10-metre penalty after repeated fouls but Topalidis made the save before the taker slammed home on the rebound.

SD Raiders Futsal started the second half strong. They had a few half chances then Bromfield poked another effort wide of the mark.

Neville went close to getting the visitors on the board. She was denied in quick succession by Ellul as the game continued to stretch.

The visitors were given a chance from the spot after a handball. Zumaya had her effort saved but Boag was there on the rebound to make it 2-1 in the 29th minute.

That buoyed SD Raiders Futsal to an equaliser. It was another strong effort from Boag who was there to tap home after her pressing for 2-2 in the 30th minute.

It was all the visitors from that moment. Neville curved wide with a shot as it seemed a matter of time before they took the lead.

Zumaya made it 3-2 in the 32nd minute. She found space before rifling home from close range to complete the turnaround.

Quake tried to find their rhythm again to get back in the game. Goal scorer Fenn had a chance which went straight at Topalidis.

Neville got herself on the scoresheet in the 35th minute. It was some good combination work which ended with the captain firing home for 4-2.

The hosts kept trying to the final whistle for another goal. The ball fell to Lynch whose fizzing effort was taken well by Topalidis.

SD Raiders Futsal made it 5-2 in the 37th minute. Neville made it a brace after her strong effort rattled into the net.

Lynch had a late chance for a consolation goal but her first time effort sailed over the bar as SD Raiders Futsal claimed the win.

Sydney Futsal Club 8 defeated West City Crusaders 1

Sydney Futsal Club were 8-1 winners against West City Crusaders at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts recorded their third win on the bounce back at their home base. Heba El Saddick made it 1-0 for Sydney Futsal Club in the 1st minute then Ashley Limnios made it 2-0 in the 6th minute before Tamika Richardson pulled one back for Crusaders in the 11th minute for 2-1. Limnios found the back for the net again for 3-1 in the 12th minute.

Cynthia Coghlan made it 4-1 for Sydney Futsal Club in the 28th minute followed by Mia Nataly firing home in the 5-1 in the 30th minute. Limnios completed her hat-trick for 6-1 in the 32nd minute. Nataly rounded off the success with two strikes for her hat-trick and an 8-1 win.

Raiders Futsal Club 5 defeated by Phoenix Futsal Club 6

Phoenix Futsal Club won 6-5 against Raiders Futsal Club at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

That marks Phoenix Futsal Club’s first win of the 2024 campaign. Georgina Sarkission made it 1-0 for Phoenix in the 4th minute then Harriet Johnson doubled their delight in the 5th minute. Johnson made it 3-0 in the 18th minute then Gala Pavlovic added the fourth in the same minute. Gemma Bartolillo pulled it back to 4-1 for Raiders Futsal Club in the 19th minute but Pavlovic made it 5-1 for Phoenix also in the 19th minute.

Raiders Futsal Club started the second half strong and brought it back to 5-4 in the 25th minute with goals from Keira Addison, Angelina Powell and Nicole Ossio. Adisyn Lopez gave Phoenix a 6-4 cushion in the 27th minute then Powell picked up a second for Raiders Futsal Club in the 32nd minute for 6-5.
