Bankstown City FC have confirmed the appointment of Panagiotis “Panny” Nikas as the club’s new head coach for the remainder of the 2026 Football NSW League One Men’s season.

Nikas steps into the role following the departure of Fabian Miceli, who parted ways with the club after Bankstown City’s Round 15 defeat to the Newcastle Jets.

The club has moved quickly to install Nikas, who arrives from his most recent position as Head Coach of Western Sydney Wanderers’ NPL Men’s NSW side.

A former Bankstown City junior, Nikas returns to familiar surroundings with strong ties to the club and a decorated reputation within the NSW football landscape.

The 37-year-old is widely regarded as one of the standout figures in the modern NPL Men’s NSW era, having enjoyed a highly successful playing career with both the Sutherland Sharks and Sydney United 58. His performances earned him recognition as an NPL NSW Player of the Year during his playing days.

Bankstown City welcomed the appointment in an official club statement, highlighting both his pedigree and immediate impact at Jensen Park.

“The Club welcomes Panny Nikas, former Lions junior and decorated player and coach, to the position of Bankstown City Lions Men’s First Grade Head Coach, effective immediately.

“Vacating his role as head coach of Western Sydney Wanderers’ NPL Men’s NSW side, Panny brings professionalism, knowledge and experience and is already instilling his philosophy and style at Jensen Park with the playing squad.”

The appointment comes at a crucial stage of the season, with Bankstown City firmly in the promotion hunt. After 15 rounds, the club sits third on 27 points, behind Northern Tigers on 29 and league leaders Blacktown Spartans on 33.

With promotion firmly in sight, Nikas inherits a squad still well within striking distance of top spot, with the League One Men’s competition structure adding further significance to the run-in. The team finishing first earns automatic promotion to the NPL Men’s NSW competition (subject to Football NSW competition criteria), while second place enters a two-legged promotion/relegation playoff against the 15th-placed NPL Men’s NSW side.
