In support of Football Federation Australia’s mission of ‘Better Coaches, Better Football’, Football NSW is committed to increasing the competency and capability of all coaches across the state.

A particular focus of this commitment is women coaching in the game and increasing the amount of qualified female coaches.

In support of this objective, Football NSW is pleased to announce a new initiative whereby several Female Coaching Scholarships will be offered each year for committed candidates to develop their own personal skills, knowledge and experience through the attainment of formal advanced coaching qualifications.

Brian Dene, Football NSW’s Technical Director for Girls’/Women’s Football said

“This is a really exciting initiative for female coaches within the state. Coaches are key influencers, so enabling more females to coach is not only important for women and girls, but for football itself.

At Football NSW we recognise the life and leadership experiences female coaches have to offer the wider football community. They also have attributes that can contribute to a more diverse experience from a player development perspective. Thank you to FNSW’s Manager, Advanced Coach Development, Chris Adams and Head of Women’s and Schools Football, Hayley Todd for all of their hard work and collaboration on getting these scholarships activated”.

The Female Coaching Scholarship will be available for Female Coaches (aged 18 or over) currently working in a club either within the NSW Women’s National Premier League, Girls Conference League and SAP/GSAP or in the Football NSW Association environment.

For season 2020, Football NSW will offer:

  • Four $1000 scholarships for four female coaches to attend an AFC/FFA C-Licence held at Valentine Sports Park – reducing the candidate’s contribution to $155; and
  • Two $2,000 scholarships for two female coaches to attend an AFC/FFA B-Licence held at Valentine Sports Park – reducing the candidate’s contribution to $400.

Scholarships will be by way of a course fee subsidy and are not transferable for cash.

Further support will be offered to scholarship recipients by Football NSW Technical staff through:

  • Additional mentoring and self–reflection opportunities throughout the course and assessment process; and
  • Opportunities to observe firsthand Football NSW and FFA women’s football high performance programs.

A key requirement of all scholarship recipients is to attend all course dates to fulfil Licence commitments including submission of a Final Assessment within six months of the respective course’s conclusion.

Further scholarship recipients will be asked to be included in Football NSW promotional interviews/articles to promote female coaching and where possible, become a Club Coach Coordinator to help ‘pay it forward’, mentor and support other female coaches in the game.

Applications now closed.
