Futsal Winter State League Semi Final Review
In the first women?s semi final one first placed V.I.M took of fourth placed Hachies both sides have some good battles over the course of the competition and with a place in the final at stake this was going to be a close contest. Both teams sat back in the early exchanges waiting for someone to make an early mistake. Hachies struck first with a fantastic solo goal by Rio Fleming, Fleming beat three opponents to give Hachies a deserved lead. It didn?t take long for V.I.M to draw level when Nichole Laws found herself in space on the edge of the ?D? and her shot gave Amanda Horafios no chance in the Hachies goal. V.I.M then took control of the contest with Horafios making save after save in the Hachies goal. V.I.M took the lead when Laws secured her double when her shape turn on the right hand edge of the ?D? was enough room to fire a low dive flew into the bottom right corner of the goal. Laws could have had a hat-trick by half time if wasn?t for a fine one-one save by Horafios. In the second half Hachies tried to get back into the contest but V.I.M was happy to play keep ball and kill of the game. Hachies had the odd chance in the second half but Tani Rosekelly was equally impressive in the V.I.M goal. V.I.M sealed a grand final berth when Jenna Kingsley received a great through ball by Kahlee Doyle and Kingsley made no mistake with her finish.

Semi final two saw second place Force 10 take on Sydney City Quake both sides have been evenly matched during the course of the season and this game could go either way. This game started slowly with neither side really prepared to force the pace of the game. In the early exchanges some of the passing and movement was good but both defenses were equally well disciplined. Sydney City Quake took the lead when Fabiana Perfilio strike found the back of the net just on the 10minute mark. Force 10 then created a few opportunities with the best of them falling to Sophie Svinos but her effort was well saved by Ashley Brown in the Quake goal. Sydney City Quake took a narrow advantage to the break. In the second half Force 10 started brightly but they could not find a way past Brown. Sydney City Quake extended their lead with a nice team goal which resulted in Perfilio getting her double. Force 10 were required to dig deep but unfortunately it wasn?t their night and Sydney City Quake wrapped up their place in the grand final when Perfilio secured her hat-trick and her sides third goal in the dying minutes. So the show down its set V.I.M will now take Sydney City Quake in the final.

In the Men?s semi final one Group A winners Maccabi Maulers took on Group B second placed Quake Youth and this game was a thriller. Maccabi fresh from their few weeks at the Maccabi games looked very Sharpe early on and their free flowing Futsal was a joy to watch. The young Quake side could not seem to retain possession and this cost the Quake outfit throughout the game. Quake we first to strike when Emmanuel Habihru first time strike through traffic scraped inside the right hand post to give Quake a shock lead. Maccabi drew level with a well rehearsed set play which Slav Platkov put away after his run was not tracked by the Quake defence. Habihru not long later put Quake back into the lead with a nice individual goal. Quake Youth took a slender lead into the break. In the second half Maccabi came out all guns blazing and the half time talk from former Futsalroo Simon Keith must have worked as Maccabi scored the next two goals in the match the first when Platkov got his double and then second came after Chris Sheerin was given his marching orders after a tackle from behind the resulting free kick ended with a strike by Antony Tow who?s shot was driven into the roof of the net. Quake Youth needed something special and the tireless Troy Valentiner popped up late on to force the game into extra time when his right foot strike from the edge of the ?D? flow past Marco Pin in the Maccabi goal. In extra time both teams were starting to look tired and one chance would win it with only minutes remaining in the second period of injury time Antony Tow turned out to be the Hero when his shot from an acute angle was too good form Justin Faint in the Quake goal. The goal sent Maccabi into the grand final were they take on the winner of semi final two Pirates.

In the Men?s semi final two Group B winner Dural Warriors took on Group A second placed side Pirates. This game consisted of some great Futsal and some great goals. Pirates started the stronger and took and early lead with a well taken goal by Rogerio Texeira who beat his opponent and slotted home from an acute angle. Pirates could have extended their advantage if it wasn?t for Ian Pemberton in the Dural goal he made a number of saves to keep them in the contest. Dural?s normal passing game was nowhere to be seen and Pirates continued to cause Dural trouble throughout the half. The second have was the Rogerio Texeira show with one of the nicest goals scored in this competiion thus far. The first came on 25minutes when Ricky Curmi in the Pirates goal throw the ball to Texeira just over half court. Pemberton came out to try and block the shot but Texeira delightful chip dipped under the cross bar and into an empty net. Marko Kraljevic then made is three nil when he received a great ball into space by Texeira and Kraljevic first time effort flew across Pemberton into the right hand post. Dural then got on to the score sheet thanks to their goal scoring machine Engelo Rumora when his sharp turn gave him enough room to get a strike of and it managed to hit the back of the net. Pirates then put the game out of site when Rogerio Texeira secured a well deserved hat-trick then Danilo D?Angelo put the icing on the cake with a fifth. Dural got a late consolation goal when Rumora got his double but it was too little too late for the Warriors. The result now sets up a mouth watering final between Maccabi and Pirates.
