Futsal – Quake girls romp to victory over Eagles

The Campbelltown Quake womens side put on an exhibition of clinical finishing against a formidable looking Sydney City side to post an impressive 4-0 win that also featured an excellent hat-trick from Stephanie Haim.
Most of the early possession came from the Quake as they looked to settle in and find their rhythm but Sydney City looked the most likely to score as they threatened from some incisive counter attacks with Fabiana Perfilio and Nicole Laws both going close.
The home side took the lead mid way through the half when Laura Donnelly robbed a player mid court then found Stephanie Haim who coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Using their physical presence and experience the Eagles were having plenty of possession and attempts on goal but the finishing touch to their probing and endeavours were not there.
Nearing the end of the first half Campbelltown extended their lead when Stephanie Haim received the ball directly from a corner and was afforded the time and space to place her shot into the far right corner.
Looking to lift the tempo of their game and show more urgency the Eagles almost pulled a goal back in the opening minute of the second half when a goalmouth scramble led to Quake keeper Ashley Brown and defenders bravely blocking shots to deny the Eagles from forcing the ball over the line.
The Quake stunned the Eagles and took a stranglehold on the game when Stephanie Haim dispossessed an Eagles opponent on halfway and from out wide on the left flank surprised the keeper took her shot early and blasted her long range shot into the net to claim her hat-trick and give her team a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles kept trying to pull a goal back but the Quake defence kept their shape and held firm.
Late in the game Campbelltown Quake took an unassailable lead when Leesa Thompson rode the Eagles defenders tackles and beat the advancing keeper to score the final goal of the game to make it 4-0 and seal a fine win for the home side.
The Eagles tried desperately to score a goal and restore some pride but unfortunately could not convert their possession and chances into goals.
Campbelltown Quake got the season off to a great start and ran out deserved winners as they enthusiastically hustled and bustled their opponents on the ball, defended with energy when needed the whole game and brilliantly took their chances as they came along.
