Waratah Cup Quarter Finals: Brumbies hearts broken by Cattanach goal

It was an entertaining clash from the outset, with the away side determined to play their crisp passing game against their more illustrious NSW Premier League opponents.
United were also in the mood, and 10? minutes in hit the woodwork.
Matt Sim reacted first to an over hit corner and instead of lashing the ball from the by-line, chipped it towards the far post.
11? minutes later Sim again was in the thick of the action.
A counter attack saw Colin Iley break free on the left and Jimmy Oates on the right, but the wingback was unable to find either team-mate and the chance went begging.
34? minutes in Oates should have opened the scoring.
Free at the far post, he took a touch with the goal at his mercy but his shot was straight down the throat of Hills shot-stopper Harrick Sinprasenth.
2? minutes later Brumbies winger Lucas Rossi fired in a teasing cross from the left that Manly keeper Kang Ho Lee dealt with well.
5? minutes after oranges United skipper Marc Richards missed a difficult chance with a header, with United coach Craig Midgley then using his bench.
Justin Hayward replaced Sim and Robbie Cattanach came on for Oates.
Cattanach?s first touch almost resulted in a goal after 61? minutes.
Scott Balderson dribbled into the area with purpose and squared the ball to his fellow marksman, but Josh Karpes was on hand to block the goal bound effort.
4? minutes later Cattanach turned his marker inside out before rattling the post when he should have scored.
With 12? minutes on the clock Hayward had a header brilliantly saved from Sinprasenth, and then Balderson missed a sitter on 82? minutes following a stray back pass.
He redeemed himself in the 88? minute, finally giving Manly the lead.
Enter Eros Bergamin.
With the Brumbies running out of the time, the midfielder unleashed a “bomb?? from 22 yards to send the game into extra-time.
Manly continued to press as the game reached 100 minutes, but missed a hatful of chances.
The game was then delayed for 10 minutes when the lights went out on a timer from Warringah Council.
It summed up the night, with a replay on the cards before United officials got their act together and got the lights back on.
With penalties appearing to be a formality, Cattanach broke Brumbies hearts in the 116? minute after ghosting into the area and hammering his shot high into the back of the net.
At fulltime Midgley praised the endeavour in the home sheds.
?It was an ugly win, but we will take it,? he said.
?You have to give them (Hills) credit, they have beaten Rockdale and Sydney United to get this far.
?They were no pushovers on a windy night.
?We are now in the semi-finals of the Cup, it was a brilliant effort from the lads, they are buzzing.?
