Football facilities boost for Campbell Park and Centenary Park
In a major coup for football in the Inner West, the Federal Member for Reid, Craig Laundy has announced a re-elected Turnbull Government will contribute a total of $2.3 million towards upgrades to Campbell Park and Centenary Park.
Laundy, a former player and coach for Canterbury DSFA club Strathfield FC, stated that his Government would fund $1 million towards ground improvements at Campbell Park, Chiswick, home ground of the Abbotsford Junior Football Club as well as $1.3 million towards ground improvements at Centenary Park, Croydon, home ground of Burwood Football Club.
The funding contribution towards Centenary Park complements a previous state government commitment of $500,000 and will allow works to commence on the $1.8 million upgrade. The project includes a new amenities block, meeting rooms, new field lighting, security lighting and fencing.
Laundy, the Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, said the Government’s investment in Centenary Park will end once and for all the frustration that the users of the park have had.
“The proposed works have long been sought by Burwood FC and other users of the park and I am delighted that a re-elected Turnbull government help establish a local sporting facility of world class standards.”
“The proposed works will allow existing users of the park to enjoy some outstanding facilities whilst ensuring that the amenity of nearby residents is protected.”
“We have a fantastic local sporting tradition in the inner west and I’m proud to deliver a commitment to strengthen that,” Mr Laundy said.
Campbell Park has always been the Abbotsford Junior Football Club’s home ground and this funding announcement will allow works to commence on the $1.35 million revamp.
“It is well understood that the existing amenities block leaks water, has a cracked roof, the foundations have sunk, showers have no hot water and storage is inadequate,” Laundy said.
“This funding commitment will provide the Abbotsford Junior players, together with the many others who use the park, some fantastic community facilities.
Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association Chief Executive Ian Holmes was delighted with the announcement launched by the Member for Reid.

“Venues which are operated by the Abbotsford and the Burwood Football Clubs respectively.
“Investment in community sporting facilities improves the lifestyle and health of the local community.
