NPL NSW Women’s football ready for kick off
The launch of the Playstation 4 National Premier Leagues (NPL) NSW Women’s seasons took place at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday, kick starting 2015 in fine fashion.
Players and officials from the 20 competing clubs including the Emerging Jets who join the Women’s 1 this season, were present, celebrating the second year of the NPL, and the first with new sponsor Playstation 4.
In what has already been a monumental year for the women’s game with the Matildas gearing up for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada this June, the Playstation 4 National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s Launch was well received by the many who attended.
Young Matildas Coach Ante Juric was a special guest at the launch. Juric stressed the importance the NPL played in the development of both players and coaches.
“It’s a competition that so many players and coaches have come through the system who have then kicked on to playing in the Westfield W-League, playing abroad and representing the Matildas,” said Juric.
While former Matildas star Renee Rollason continued the theme on the significant role the NPL played in the women’s game.
“It’s a key competition where so many of the girls get a chance to showcase what they can do in order of progressing to the next stages of their professional careers as footballers.”
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia expressed his passion and excitement at PlayStation’s affiliation with the National Premier Leagues.
“At PlayStation, everything we do is for the players. People love to play football for many of the same reasons they play video games – for fun, to be challenged, for the competition and to be social. This new partnership unites the passion of our fans with the passion of the National Premier Leagues communities and will help drive the continued growth of football in Australia,” Ephraim said.
Football NSW CEO Eddie Moore said he was anticipating a huge year for female football.
“It will be an action packed season for all our clubs, players, coaches, referees and volunteers involved with the sport.
“With our female growth numbers increasing by the year, it’s fantastic to see so many participants enjoying the sport from a grassroots to elite level.
“We expect that there will be some very entertaining matches across all our National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s competitions with a number of trophies up for grabs.
“I would like to wish all clubs the best for the upcoming season and look forward to seeing the game progress.”
The PS4 NPL NSW Women’s 1 kicks off on Sunday 12th of April while the PS4 NPL NSW Women’s 2 has already commenced currently in its second round of competition matches.
